Show Your Loved Ones That You Care

July 9th, 2009

“This Article” by Matt Johnson raises some very good points about caring for your elderly loved ones. It means so much more to show genuine interest in the people close to you rather than simply sending a generic Hallmark card. “care for your loved ones and your senior care clients, as surely they have cared for you.”

How will you deal with your parents’ needs as they get older?

June 16th, 2009

Found this excellent article in the Washington Post today about caring for your parents as they age.

“Fewer than 5 percent of the elderly live in institutions. Nursing home use has been falling for 20 years. Overwhelmingly, the people taking care of seniors are the people who always have: their families. ‘If families were not available,’ says Lynn Feinberg of the Family Caregiver Alliance, ‘the whole health-care system would fall apart.’”

This information in this article is closely related to our other post on families tasked with caring for their loved ones. It warns about the vast number of us that are unprepared to handle taking care of, or finding care for, our loved ones. Learning your options now can make all the difference for you and your loved ones in their time of need.

When is it the right time for YOU to start thinking about your parents’ senior care?

May 28th, 2009

There is no concrete answer to this question. Depending on how organized your life is, you might consider the possibility of your parents’ retirement in an adult care facility before they are even old enough to be members of the AARP. Most of us, however, try not to deal with these types of issues until absolutely necessary. We never want to plan on a loved one getting a stroke, Alzheimer’s or any other malady requiring the aid of a care home.
The truth of the matter is that learning about elder care earlier will make us more prepared to face these situations as they occur. With the internet at our fingertips, there are infinite resources to learn about adult care facilities and all that they have to offer. Adult-Care.org is just one site with information about care homes. Through search engines or checking other sites we can also gain a multitude of information about facilities, communities, nursing homes and everything in between. This is the age of information and with so much to learn about elder care, there’s nothing stopping you from feeding your curiosity and preparing yourself early for what life has in store.
